Stargazer lilies

April 4, 2011

Powdery orange pollen makes it’s mark on everything it touches

They are beautiful to look at. They give off a heavenly, sweet fragrance. They last for a long time! Stargazer lilies are our new favorite flower to bring in from the farmer’s market on weekends. Most flowers sold here  in the US hardly have any smell, they are bred to look beautiful but not even a whiff of fragrance escapes their petals no matter how close you place your nose to them or how deeply you breathe in. We were delighted to find that this member of the lily family is not shy about showing off it’s fragrance.

Stargazer Lily

Although it’ll never come close to the dewy freshness of mallige-hoova or the mesmerizing sweet mogra (jasmine) from India, it’s still a welcome fragrance and sight to wake up to.
