January 15, 2012

Where has the past year gone? Poof. Vanished in a blink. I vividly recall blogging excitedly about the start of 2011. It’s hard to believe there were 12 entire months between then and now. A lot has happened since Jan 2011, of course. Overall, it’s been a great year. I can’t think of any one thing I would have wanted to change or want less/more of or do less/more of. We had it good!

With the beginning of 2012, it got me thinking about how a new year brings with it a sense of excitement, freshness, possibility and potential. What is it about a new year which fills one with endless optimism and the urge to write down half a dozen resolutions? It’s like a mental reset button gets pressed. Even though all that changes is a date, the 12 uncharted months shine in the distance, filled with the bright possibility of accomplishing all the things we didn’t have time to get to in the past year. It’s an energizing, cheerful thought. They say resolutions are meant to be broken. But I’m going to give the following a honest try this year.

Do more of:

  1. Read more books. (The Kindle is already helping in this aspect. I’m onto my 3rd book in as many weeks!)
  2. Write/blog more often. (As much as I would like to post regularly, it’s hard to find the time and creative spark after a long work week. I hope to be more regular on this blog and write about some of our previous destinations and travel stories)
  3. Exercise regularly. (Don’t we all!?)
  4. Learn more about photography. (Explore and experiment with the Manual mode and various camera settings on my DSLR)
  5. Travel. The mantra being local, frugal, international. (Of course! There’s still a lot of the blue marble waiting to be explored!)

Do less of:

  1. Spend less time online on Facebook & random browsing (Information junkie!)
  2. Eat out less == Cook more often at home (Healthier and tastier!)
  3. Watch less TV (Already accomplished by yanking out the cable connection. Progress!)

What are some of your resolutions?

Wishing all of you a fabulous 2012! May all your dreams and aspirations come true!
